About Royal Dornoch

The history and reputation of Royal Dornoch Golf Club and its two, world-class natural links courses, makes it one of the must-play venues for players around the world.

The Championship Course is revered by professionals and amateurs alike and in 2018 was ranked 2nd best in the world by Golf Digest.

Golf in Dornoch can be traced back to the early 17th century, and some claim even earlier. Long before there was a golf club, the game was played on the town lands on the links along the seashore.


Dornoch Golf Club was formed in 1877. The first 18-hole course was laid out in 1886 by Old Tom Morris, who extended the original nine holes and introduced the trademark plateau greens.


The Championship Course has hosted a number of leading events, including the 2015 Jacques Léglise Trophy, the 2016 Northern Open and the Boys Home Internationals in 2018.
